aceeccentric: Angel wing with quote "just enough of a bastard to be worth liking" (Good Omens)
[personal profile] aceeccentric
If anyone is coming here from Tumblr (which I suspect most of you are), hello!

I am terribly awkward and bad at talking about myself, but memes are easy to fill out, so I wrote one up. You can copy/paste the text from the text box if you want to do the same in your own journal or in the comments. (And feel free to skip any questions you don't want to answer. I wrote some questions I didn't answer.) Also, add any questions you wish were on there.

Later I'll make a post about creating an ace community (still interested in possible names! Right now people have suggested GroupX and acecommunity).

username: [personal profile] aceeccentric

Hi! I don't tumblr because I quit like... last year because the drama was kind of terrifying! I follow several tumblrs in google reader, though, and thus saw the DW-migration stuff. (I've had a DW for a while but I don't really use it because I am terrible at blogs.)

username: Shiyiya
What you can call me: Shiyiya (pronounced shih-yie-yuh), Shi or Shiy (pronounced shy) for short. Because I don't really expect other people to be able to spell it.

username: anghraine
What you can call me: Elizabeth or Anghraine

Sexuality: aromantic asexual
Gender: femaleish

I haven't read all of them, but I love the ones I've read. Oh, Paige, Lucas, Savannah, and Jaime are definitely my favourites. <3 And ha, I'm glad my love at ATLA is also shared. Not that DW and Sherlock aren't great, but there are things that are also amazing!

Heh, awesome. I think I'd like to do English for grad school, probably - I'm a writing minor and I love that, too, but analysis is really my thing. :)

I did my own here!

Good Omens is an awesome, and I am actually on my fourth copy of mine--two vanished into an endless cycle of lending and borrowing with friends, one exploded when left in my then-roommate's car, and I finally bought a fourth one last year. Then I got back one of the ones in the lending/borrowing cycle, so now I have a Crowley-covered one and an Aziraphale-covered one, which is all kinds of excellent.

Heh, I lend books out all the time and in fact have been compared to "a crack dealer, only for books" so it's not surprising that that one gets heavy rotation. The explody one might have actually been my third rather than my second, I forget.

I thought it was accurate too, especially given the state of mine! Did you also see the bit about "weirdest things they have been asked to sign by Good Omens fans?"

Luckily one of my copies was near the top of an un-taped-shut box! Unluckily the author interviews did not contain the same stuff as the 2001 edition, which these stories must have been in. (I owned that one first and must have read these there.) Bah.

The one I remember most vividly is someone--I think Neil--signing a person's arm, only to find a few hours later when the person came back that they'd run off to a tattoo parlor and had the signature tattooed on!

virescence: An image of new, green leaves shown on a lighter green background. (Default)
From: [personal profile] virescence
(I'm also going to post this in my journal, mostly because it's blank and that irritates me.)

username: virescence
What you can call me: Anything so long as it's not rude? XD Most people shorten this username to Vire or Vir.
My default icon explained: "virescence" means "the state or process of becoming green". So... green leaves.
Sexuality: Asexual. Not entirely sure about the whole romantic side of it - sort of wtf-aromantic in a "I don't think I feel romance but really it depends on your definition" way. I have a zucchini though!
Gender: Female
Preferred pronouns: She/her
Other platforms I'm on: I vaguely use tumblr as likespacegandalf, and I was on AVEN with the same name.
Favorite books: ... I'm doing an MA in Creative Writing. Naming favourite books involves me staring blankly at you for a bit, then staring at my bookshelves/Kindle and picking the first things I see that I remember as being pretty good. That said: Anything written by Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, or both. Also rather liking Ursula Le Guin generally but need to read more of her - the bookstores have a really poor selection. The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas, The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, The Regneration Trilogy by Pat Barker (which I borrowed from a friend and never gave back because it had been sitting on her bookshelves unread for years and it did not deserve this treatment). And harry Potter because that's my generation.
Favorite movies: I'm not that big on movies in general, but recently I watched X-Men First Class and am sort of addicted to fanfic for it.
Favorite TV shows: I don't watch much TV, so this is pretty much a list of what I watch. Doctor Who, always and forever. Sherlock. Merlin. And recently My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I am not ashamed.
Favorite songs: Not very big on music (I see a pattern here) but I just noticed someone else mentioned This Is Gallifrey so OH MY GOD YES (it's my ringtone and has been for years: the text alert is the TARDIS). Also Song of Freedom. Other than that... Still Alive? Oooh, I own an album by Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid - my brother-in-law was playing it on repeat once when I was staying with them and I had to get it.
Languages I know: English, and I have a GCSE in Latin and French, but if you stranded me in France or the Roman Empire I'd probably fail at communicating completely.
Occupation: Student, also part-time office job.
Location: England! Specifically Manchester.
Pets: None, actually, though my mother is planning on getting a poodle.
Favorite food: Chocolate? Or chicken. Or pizza.
A long-term goal: Publish a novel. O.o.
A short-term goal: Finish my %&(*^ing dissertation and graduate this MA.
My superpower would be: Oh, god, I don't even know, everyone keeps asking me altely XD. Possibly flight. Or healing. Or shielding. Or... I'd like some sort of really subtle background power that isn't all flashy and used in battles and things but is really pretty powerful/awesome when you think about it. I've been thinking about the ability to fix things. because a) pretty useful on an everyday basis, b) it gives me healing powers anyway (injuries are things that need fixing!) and c)... what about fixing abstract things, like a broken heart, or a relationship, or THE WORLD? (although for fixing those sorts of things I wouldn't just want to be able to wave a hand and poof! two people are magically back in love, because that's sort of mind controlly and creepy. I'm thinking something more like, I get the sudden urge to go and talk to Person A and pat them on the back a bit and suggest that they go and apologise to Person B and try a particular compromise, and then that fixes things.
Favorite animals: I like most of the ones that aren't scary/ugly/creepy/ Cats? or some of the ones that give me lovely yarn to knit.
Hobbies: Knitting, reading, writing, baking cakes, various other bits and pieces.
How I would describe my personality: This is a question I always have trouble with. I'm not very good at seeing me from the outside. I'm just me. I think I'm friendly. I'm certainly loyal? or I try to be. Very, very much a procrastinator and I can be rather lazy.

Favorite TV shows: The New Adventures of Old Christine, How I Met Your Mother,Sherlock
Favorite songs: There, There Katie by Jack's Mannequin; I Saw by Matt Nathanson; Marching Bands of Manhattan by Death Cab for Cutie

A long-term goal: I mean, hopefully I'll graduate college and go on to grad school.
A short-term goal: 4.0 for my first semester
My superpower would be: A super-awesome memory... Or the ability to make people uncomfortable with a single glance.

What you can call me: Azaelia or Azi
My default icon explained: Okay, this is going to be long. So I used to run (well I guess I technically still run it but it's dead now so) this Harry Potter fanboard. We'd always do stuff for April Fools' day because the board was sort of a celebration of pranking. One of the last years the site was still pretty active, our April Fools' joke was to re-skin the site into black and green and change all the admins and moderators usernames to those of Voldemort and the Death Eaters. One of my best friends, a fellow admin, got to be Voldie, and because she was around when we wanted to start the change, made the announcement post. In it, she said something to the lines of "And all shall bow to me! For I am Batma.. I mean, THE DARK LORD." I found it hilarious and made an icon of it.
Sexuality: Asexual. Possibly aromantic, possibly greyromantic (with panromantic leanings), possibly WTFRomantic, usually questioning my romantic orientation.
Gender: Cis-woman
Preferred pronouns: She/her/hers
Other platforms I'm on: Tumblr (as ace-azaelia). I also have an old empty wordpress but that's under my old failed internet pseud (it failed because people from meatspace started finding out about it).
Favorite books: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, John Green's books, right now I'm quite enjoying Leviathan by Scott Westerfield...
Favorite movies: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Batman Begins, Newsies...
Favorite TV shows: I grew up without TV and currently don't have cable so I have like 6 public access channels, but shows that I have the DVDs for include Avatar: The Last Airbender, Justice League Unlimited, Batman: the Animated Series, and Batman Beyond.
Favorite songs: The current five highest playcount songs on my itunes are The Batman themesong (the original one by Neal Hefti), The Dr. Horrible Themesong, the Superman Themesong, Brand New Day from Dr. Horrible, and I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today from Avenue Q. I also enjoy Hank Green's music and a lot of music that is significantly less nerdy than anything in the above list.
Languages I know: I am fluent in English, took a year of Italian, a semester of Spanish, understand French if it's something likely to show up on a cereal box, and speak a couple phrases in German and Dutch.
Occupation: Recent college grad, hopefully on my way to being a theatre technician of some sort. Or maybe a writer.
Location: Canada
Pets: None. I had an imaginary pet dragon when I was about 6, though.
Favorite food: I don't know, I like nutella, though.
A long-term goal: Well hopefully I'll actually finish a book at some point, whether or not it gets published...
A short-term goal: To find a day job until I can start getting theatre gigs with some regularity.
My superpower would be: If I got to choose it? Teleportation. If it chose me? Probably invisibility. Well, that or genre savvy.
Favorite animals: I am partial to ducks. And arctic foxes. And honey badgers. Honey badgers are badass.
Hobbies: Drawing, reading, making friendship bracelets, collecting embroidery floss in pretty colours, collecting playing cards.
How I would describe my personality: Quietly friendly, really awkward, nerdy, flexible, dependable, sometimes a bit anxious, apparently easy to get along with, apparently hard to really get to know. Sometimes really angsty and unsure of myself. Slowly gaining in confidence.

kaz: "Kaz" written in cursive with a white quill that is dissolving into (badly drawn in Photoshop) butterflies. (Default)
From: [personal profile] kaz
username: [personal profile] kaz
What you can call me: Kaz, by preference. :)
My default icon explained: It's meant to be a white quill which has just finished writing the word "Kaz" dissolving into butterflies, but because my Photoshop skills are dreadful this is a bit unclear (I keep meaning to go back and edit this to make the butterflies actually look like butterflies.) I am not sure there is an explanation for this one beyond "I like butterflies."
Sexuality: Asexual, with a romantic orientation of divide by cucumber (or wtfromantic but that doesn't quite encapsulate the "ERROR QUESTION NONSENSICAL" feeling I get.) I used to call myself greyhomoromantic and still feel a vague connection to that as well as the identities of aromantic and homoromantic but I no longer consider myself any of those things.
Gender: Nonbinary representing~ I am somewhere in between woman and neutrois and looking for a somewhat easier way of describing this. (Neutroisgirl?)
Preferred pronouns: Ze/zer/zer or ze/eir/zer (as in, stealing "eir" as possessive from Spivak because it's so pretty *_*)
Other platforms I'm on: I'm Kazaera on tumblr and on LJ (which is really just a more-locked mirror of my DW with less posts these days) and some other places like the AO3 and others? Er, as far as I know that nick is unique so anytime you see a Kazaera it's me, although I prefer Kaz these days really.
Favorite books: Tamora Pierce all the way. I am also quite fond of Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos series. Also, I have a deep, abiding and somewhat terrifying love for the Silmarillion, and <3 Pratchett (as if that's anything unusual). But my heart will always belong to the Circle of Magic series, I'm afraid.
Favorite movies: next question? I don't really watch video these days.
Favorite TV shows: see above. Although I've managed a few eps of Doctor Who and am sometimes interested in the fandom. :)
Favorite songs: ...?! um. Usually I like classical music with an occasional excursion into symphonic metal, medieval rock or suchlike, the past few weeks I've mainly had "the sound of tau" and the German children's song "Am Bahndamm wohnt der Regenmann" running through my head on repeat (that latter bitterly ironic, I should note, when it actually starts raining.) If we're talking actual songs songs there are quite a few I really liked from my time in the Waldjugend aka German eco-anarchist Scouts as a teenager? IDK I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS QUESTION.
Languages I know: My native language is German, took French and Latin for four years in high school but can't communicate in either, took one year each of Arabic, Scottish Gaelic and Mandarin but is pretty much hopelessly incompetent in all of these. And I can't speak English at all this comment and my entire online history is an optical illusion. :D
Occupation: pure maths PhD student. (This is the part where people generally start backing away.)
Location: Somewhere in the UK! Beyond that is se~cret~ :)
Pets: does my potted basil count?
Favorite food: ...still pizza after twenty years...
A long-term goal: My ~dream~ is to one day become a maths professor.
A short-term goal: Finishing this asexual flag scarf I am knitting! I am halfway through the third stripe THE END IS IN SIGHT. Also, I want to actually do the coder stuff for the AO3 because I volunteered for that ages ago and then got frightened off by a request form for over six months but I'd really like to do something there. >>
My superpower would be: FLYING FLYING OOH I CAN SEE MY HOUSE FROM HERE :D
Favorite animals: errr. I am not much of an animal person, as the basil comment probably told you. >> Let me get back to you on this one. POSSIBLY BUTTERFLIES idek.
Hobbies: VARIABLE. Autistic interest patterns are an adventure. :D Usually something to do with fandom in some way, though, sometimes online flash games (in which case you will probably run into me ranting about the horror that is having your brain completely fixated on a mind-numbingly boring flash game seriously fate I would not wish on our trolls, even), very sometimes something crafty such as knitting or making jewellery or making chocolates. I also hike and do big cycling trips sometimes. :)?
How I would describe my personality: Indescribable. Uh. I don't actually believe in being able to sum up personalities in pat words like that? At least I've always been totally stuck whenever people want me to talk about mine. ;_; I am sorry, you will just have to figure out what sort of person I am by observation.
